Sainsbury’s suspends online shopping site

Computer fault shuts website temporarily and halts deliveries

Written by Andrea-Marie Vassou, Computeract!ve

Sainsbury's has been forced to suspend its online home delivery service, leaving some customers without their groceries.

The company said a computer fault was spotted on Tuesday, which meant it was unable to access customers' orders and get their deliveries out. It has since suspended its online delivery service.

In a statement on its website, the company said: “We have temporarily frozen our online home delivery website, having identified a technical issue.

“We are contacting customers directly whose deliveries have been affected. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.”

We contacted the supermarket but it was unable to tell us when the service would be up and running.

A representative said: “We have no time frame but we are letting our customers know that they will not be receiving their deliveries.”

The company said there was no suggestion that people's personal details were at risk. It said it would be offering those affected £10 in compensation, which they could use towards their online shopping with the supermarket.
