Ofcom awards kitemark for calculators

Price comparison sites get seal of approval from regulator

Written by Dinah Greek, Computeract!ve

Two broadband price comparison calculators have been awarded a kitemark to show they give consumers accurate and comprehensive information.

The price comparison sites Broadband Choices and Simplifydigital, which cover fixed line, mobile, broadband and digital television services, are the first to be awarded the Ofcom Price Accreditation Scheme kitemark. They will be able to display this for one year, after which Ofcom will review and audit the sites again

Ofcom said both calculators met the terms of a rigorous independent audit. This assesses whether sufficient processes are in place to ensure that information provided to consumers is accessible, accurate, transparent, comprehensive and up to date.

Accredited schemes are also required to provide information in a format that is easy to use and understand, and, where they provide their services online, to also provide them on the telephone or in writing.

Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said, "Clear and accurate price information on communications services is fundamental to consumer choice. The Price Accreditation kitemark will assure consumers that the price comparison calculator they are using is up to date and reliable."
