D-Link has introduced what it claims are energy efficient home Wi-Fi routers.

The company said the new DIR-655 and DIR-855 routers can offset rising energy costs because they use technology that automatically detects connectivity status and cable length, and then adjust power accordingly.

A Wi-Fi scheduler provides a user-selectable radio shutdown option (adjustable by day and start/end times). The company said under the most favourable conditions, depending on the router used, and using the integrated scheduler, energy usage can be reduced by up to 41 per cent.

D-Link offers a free firmware upgrade for customers who bought either of these products before the current Green firmware release.
