Talktalk Broadband services hit by problems

Power outage causes delays in receiving emails and blocks access to popular sites

Written by Andrea-Marie Petrou, Computeractive

Talktalk Broadband customers have been experiencing problems with emails and website browsing after the company suffered a power outage at the weekend.

On its website the company, owned by the Carphone Warehouse, said: "There is an ongoing issue with Talktalk email services; some users will be getting delays in receiving emails and there are potential issues logging into Webmail."

Yesterday the company also admitted its servers had been blocked from accessing several popular websites, such as Ebay, Paypal and Hotmail.

Today a representative for Talktalk said the problems were a 'knock-on effect' from a 30-minute power outage that affected the firm's servers in Manchester on Saturday.

He said the problems with emails were being classed as 'high priority' and it was working with websites to remove blocks.

However, he was unable to say when normal services would resume.

The company said it would not be issuing refunds for the problems but would consider complaints on a 'case-by-case' basis.
