Children are full of imagination and creativity but, when it comes to the world of computers, it can be difficult for them to express it. The average image-editing application, while tremendously powerful and capable, is simply too complex for younger users to get to grips with, and this is the gap that Art Attack Digital aims to fill.

The program has a friendly and straightforward interface, with tools arranged down the left of the screen and a drop-down menu system along the top. In fact, it's exactly like any other image-editing program, only its features are much simpler.

Once a picture has been imported into the main window, all the usual tools are there to crop or adjust the picture. There is also a selection of special effects, from the standard colour and brightness sliders to more fun effects such as Pinch and Explode.

After a few tweaks, the image can then be loaded onto a template for creating anything from cards to calendars, and then printed out straight from the program.

Photoshop it's not, but Art Attack Digital is a helpful stepping stone for children aged eight to 14 to get to grips with the basics of photo editing.
