FAIR & SQUARE - Fighting for Fair Online Shopping

About the Fair & Square Campaign

UK consumers are protected by a number of laws when shopping online. Sadly, though, some online retailers choose to systematically ignore these laws.
Computeractive thinks that it’s time this was stopped, so we’re starting a campaign to fight for your rights when shopping online.
The campaign will encourage online retailers to sign up to our Consumer Confidence Charter – three reasonable commitments that will give consumers confidence that participating retailers understand their legal responsibilities.

> Our aims are to:

  • Prompt the Government to ensure stricter policing of online retailers
  • Encourage online retailers to sign up to our Consumer Confidence Charter

Send a copy of the guide to your friends so they can shop online with confidence too.

Our Charter

Our Consumer Confidence Charter sets out three promises that we think every online retailer should make to the British public. They should promise:
  • To display clear links to information about returning goods and to ensure the information reflects customers' statutory right to return unwanted goods.
  • Not to charge restocking fees for returned goods
  • To provide a human response to emailed queries within 48 hours and to be clear about how complaints can be escalated.

How you can support us in our campaign

We want to make sure that the Government is aware of retailers that break the law, and that it hears from consumers who want their legal rights enforced.
Please complete the form below to send an email to the Under-Secretary of State for Trade and Consumer Affairs urging him to take action.
