This is a portable 8cm CD player supplied with a remote control, headphones, mains recharger and two NiMH batteries.
The 8cm CD (185MB) can hold 21 minutes of audio (CD-DA) or up to around two hours of MP3-encoded audio at the highest quality setting. To record your own 8cm CDs you'll need a CD-R/RW drive capable of writing to this format and some MP3 encoding software (free to download).
The matching remote control and headphones are better than you'd expect. The remote duplicates the controls on the player, including volume, play, pause, stop, mode (for changing equalisation and other player settings), next and previous track, while a hold button locks the controls.
The remote's clip is sturdy and sprung, so is less likely to snap off, while the headphones are also quite durable and capable.
There's an electronic skip protection function available on the device when playing audio CDs, which avoids skips and jumps caused by handling.
There are also five equaliser modes - Normal, Classic, Pop, Jazz and Rock - although the device is best left in Normal mode. Track playback order is programmable.
ID3 tag support is included, so if you annotate tracks, you can see what's playing on the remote control's LCD.
If you listen to music on the go, then the NAPA MCD380 is worth a look.
