Open Seas looks for UK resellers

Spy Killer security suite offers incremental revenue.

Users are often the weakest link in a firm's security strategy. While firewalls and antivirus software keep out external IT security threats, many companies overlook the internal dangers posed by former or current staff.

Additionally, keeping tabs on who has access to networks and applications as staff arrive or leave is often an IT manager's nightmare.

Although the greatest threat still comes from external activity, there is a perceived threat from within, according to the Confederation of British Industry's cyber crime study last year.

In its survey of 148 UK businesses, former employees came second to hacking as perceived sources of security threats.

To help combat this threat, or simply ease the administrative hassle of staff starting and leaving a company, security firm Open Seas released Calyx's Datacontrol Spy Killer Suite 5.2 to the UK market last week.

Open Seas, which is looking for resellers to sell the product, claims that Spy Killer offers firms with Windows environments the ability to manage user access.

The combination of hardware and software also offers web filtering, encryption and authentication for desktop and laptop computers for employees in the office or working remotely.

The security software offers users the choice of standard data keys, such as USB keys, smart cards and biometric devices.

Jason Kent, managing director of Open Seas, said that he sees resellers as the key element in his firm's strategy, and is looking for partners to help it meet the demand from financial markets, education, government and non-governmental organisations.

The suite comprises five different modules which can work together or independently as a company's needs dictate, offering resellers incremental revenue.
