HP offers Linux home server

Half the price of Windowsd model, with some of the features

HP has unveiled a Linux-based home media server at half the price of its Microsoft-based MediaSmart model.

The £199 (inc Vat) mv5020 Media Vault Pro, just 14 cm high, ships with 500GB and offers some of the found in HP’s MediaSmart Server including Photo Webshare, iTunes server and remote access.

This software will allow iTunes tracks to be available across a home network, and access to photos from an web-connected PC.

The HP mv5020 Media Vault Pro will be available from May. A 500GB MediaSmart using Windows Home Server software costs £399.
