Home and professional models use Intel’s ‘Santa Rosa’ platform
Acer has introduced a complete line-up of consumer and professional laptops based around Intel’s next generation Centrino mobile processors, which were launched yesterday.
The new notebooks are based on Intel’s much-hyped Santa Rosa chips, the fourth generation of its Centrino processor. The new consumer Aspire notebooks feature an impressive designer look, dubbed Gemstone, with curved edges, dark glossy exterior and pearl-grey interior.
There are four new models, the entry-level Aspire 5720, the 5920, 7720 and the high-end 9920, all of which will be based on the Centrino Duo family of processors. There will also be an option on some to use Intel’s TurboMemory technology, codenamed Robson, which use high-speed Flash memory to boost boot times by up to 20 per cent as well speed access to the most used applications.
The 5720 and 5920 come with 15.4in displays while the 7720 and 9920 sport 17in and 20in displays, respectively. The 9920 also comes with an in-built HD DVD drive.
On the professional front, Acer unveiled new TravelMate notebooks powered by the Centrino Pro processors. There is the ultra-mobile 6292, the mainstream 6492 and the powerhouse 6592.
All are designed as desktop-replacements and are built using a new magnesium alloy cover that Acer claimed is lighter than plastic but 20 times stronger. Acer also launched two new models for SoHo users, the TravelMate 7720 and TravelMate 5720.
