PCW tests show it is faster and more battery friendlly
A better comparison is with the Elonex Mediastar 1541, which has a 15.4in screen and an M760 processor clocking 2GHz like the Acer. Assuming equivalent batteries, the speedier Acer turned out to be 8.2 per cent and 27 per cent less thirsty on the tests. The Yonah also showed up well against an AMD mobile Athlon 64 3400+ in a Hi-Grade Ultinote A9700-3400, which scored 145 on Sysmark and lasted one hour, 38 minutes on DVD playback and one hour, 48 minutes on productivity tests. But the Hi-Grade too had a 17in screen.
CES also saw the launch of its
entertainment
platform Viiv, which introduces features such as instant on, and a
new
logo saying 'Intel Leaps Ahead.'
There are four new dual-core Yonahs tagged the T2300, the T2400, the T2500 and
the T2600 plus a 1.6GHz single-core T1300. The dual cores clock respectively
1.66GHz, 1.83GHz, 2GHz and 2,16GHz and prices rise steeply with speed: $241,
$294, $423, and $637 apiece when bought in bulk.
The T1300 costs $209 (£120 approx). All the Yonahs have 2MB L2 cache and a 667MHz front-side bus and are made on a 65nm process.
Fujitsu Seimens said a dual-core Napa-based Lifebook E8110 notebook, showed
at CES, outperformed its predecessor by between 10percent and 20 percent. It
also showed two Viiv-ased entertainment PCs, the Scaleo E which is due to launch
shortly, and the Scaleo H which will be available by summer.
