Sporty Walkmans offer music to jog by

Slow, slow, quick, quick slow… tempo changes to match running speed

Sony has introduced a series of Walkman music players boasting a range of innovative features to keep sports enthusiasts happy on the go.

The sporty NW-S200 series is touted by Sony as the first music player to be completely water resistant. A G-sensor in the player counts steps, distance travelled and calories burned, which rules out the need for a separate pedometer used in alternative such as the recently reviewed Nike + iPod Sports Kit.

The Music Pacer feature, when activated, detects the speed you are running at and automatically adjusts the songs playing to suit your pace.

Finally, if you want to change from normal playback mode to shuffle mode you can simply shake the player three times and it’s done.

Available in silver, black and pink the players feature an FM radio and come in 512MB, 1GB and 2GB varieties. The built-in battery offers up to 18 hours of playback. Using Sony’s quick-charge technology it will provide three hours of playback after just three minutes of charging.

They come bundled with an armband and headphones and are due out in September. The 2GB price is expected to be around £120.
