Apple rotten on green issues

Chinese giant Lenovo tops the eco-friendly charts

Apple has managed to stay bottom of the class in the latest Green Rankings by environmental activists, Greenpeace.

The company with a pedigree in stylish products has the worst rating when it comes to its policies on recycling and toxic content, Greenpeace claimed in its latest quarterly report. Apple has been ranked last since the report first published last year.

In the latest report, Greenpeace said: “In our newest ranking, Chinese PC maker Lenovo displaces Nokia from the lead position it enjoyed since the Guide was launched.

Sony and LG Electronics receive penalty points for operating double standards on their e-waste takeback policies across the world, while Apple, having made no progress since the launch of the Guide in August 2006, continues to languish in last place, far behind all other major manufacturers.”

The group is encouraging Apple users to join its Green My Apple campaign to help force the company to clean up its act.

Apple has dismissed Greenpeace’s findings and, in a statement, countered: “We disagree with Greenpeace’s rating and the criteria they chose. Apple has a strong environmental track record and has led the industry in restricting and banning toxic substances such as mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium, as well as many BFRs (brominated flame retardants).”

As long as he's making money!

Hmmmmm.... It is not so surprising that Al "The Hypocrite" Gore is on the board of directors at Apple Inc.
