PC version of Apple browser takes on Microsoft look and feel
Apple has launched a public beta of Safari 4, the latest version of its browser for Macs and Windows PCs.
The company claims it runs Javascript 4.2 times faster than the Safari 3 browser, 30 times faster than IE7, and three times faster than Firefox 3. It also claims to be three times faster than its rivals at loading HTML web pages.
The PC version has gone native in look and feel, using standard Windows font rendering, title bars, borders and toolbars. New features include:
– Top Sites, a wall of views of frequently visited pages, making each available with a single click
– History Search, through titles, web addresses and the complete text of recently viewed pages
– Cover Flow, a feature claiming to make the searching of web history or bookmarks as easy as paging through album art in iTunes
– Tabs on Top, enabling tabbed browsing
– Full Page Zoom, for a closer look at any website without degrading the quality of the site’s layout and text
– Built-in developer tools
It is available to download here.
