Six new mini Sanyo models double as still cameras and include two with 30x optical zoom
Sanyo has launched two miniature cameras that its says are the first to be able to shoot full 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second (fps).
The VPC-FH1 and VPC-HD2000 are among six new Xacti models – all described as dual cameras, as they are capable of taking both stills and video.
The six are split into three categories: two full-HD models, two underwater cameras, and two compact HD cameras shooting at a maximum 720p. Each pair has a similar spec but offers a choice between what Sanyo calls a 'vertical' format, with a pistol grip, and a 'horizontal' one using a conventional camera shape.
All use SD storage, supporting capacities up to 32GB, and are small enough to fit into a large coat pocket. The full-HD models come with a 16x optical zoom and can take 8-megapixel stills. They also support high-speed video (240 fps/600 fps) for slow-motion playback.
The other four new models – the waterproof VPC-WH1 and VPC-CA9, and the compact VPC-TH1 and VPC-CG10 – are all able to shoot 1,289x720 resolution at 30fps. The CA9 can be used 10ft underwater, twice the maximum depth of the WH1.
The 'horizontal' format of the WH1 and TH1 enables them to pack a 30x optical zoom – the smallest cameras yet to do so, according to Sanyo. Their vertical siblings can only manage a 5x zoom.
The new range will be available in March, but prices have yet to be announced.
