Handset reports its position regularly - and panic button locates you in case of trouble.
A vehicle-tracking firm has launched a module that can track the position of a GPS-enabled iPhone. It includes an alert button that can be used to report the position of an iPhone user in trouble.
The AutoAlert service, which costs £5-a-month, was originally designed for vehicle-fleet owners to keep track of drivers and required an in-cab module, which can be replaced by an iPhone.
AutoAlert director Richard Harris say the system may be extended to other mobile platforms such as Android or the Blackberry.
The system requires the phone to report its position regularly but Harris says power use is minimised and the iPhone users are on flat-rate data contracts.
