Ideal for anyone who wants to watch 48 video streams at once
Toshiba has demonstrated a TV powered by a version of the Cell processor used in Sony's Playstation 3 games console.
The Cell TV, demonstrated at Japan's CEATAC show, is expected to launch next year and offers instant switching between your favourite channels because it can decode several broadcast streams at once. Processing delays usually cause a lag of around a second between channels.
It is said to be able to decode eight channels simultaneously, though the TV would need eight tuners to enable this.
The Cell TV is also able to screen 48 video streams from a hard disk, according to a report in EE Times.
Toshiba co-developed the Cell with Sony and IBM.
