CSR module should lead to low-cost Bluetooth USB dongle
UK-based Bluetooth pioneer CSR has developed a Bluetooth dongle kit for making voice over IP (VoIP) calls wirelessly via your PC.
The CSR Voice Dongle 1 kit is designed for manufacturers to build products round. It comprises all the components needed for a low-cost plug and play USB dongle that will let you make free Skype calls via a Bluetooth mono headset.
After plugging the dongle into a notebook or PC’s USB port, it will automatically locate your Bluetooth headset allowing you to accept or reject calls, adjust the volume up or down and mute calls using the headset controls.
Headset specialist Plantronics has been quick off the mark on this one and is planning to launch a CSR VoIP dongle soon.
"Partnering with CSR on the Voice Dongle solution enabled Plantronics to rapidly develop a fully interop tested VoIP product that we will bring to market in the very near future," said Chuck Yort, vice president of Business Solutions at Plantronics.
