Why?
Ninetendo has renamed its new console Wii (pronounced 'wee'), dumping the Revolution codename it has long been known by.
The bizarre name is to 'express our direction' Nintendo told fans on its web site.
'Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
'Wii sounds like "we", which emphasises this console is for everyone,' it said.
The console will come out later this year, fighting Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Sony Playstation 3, which should also be available by the time Wii rushes out.
