Three much-flagged compact high-definition definition cameras have just hit the shelves in the UK.

The £169.99 Flip MinoHD from a Pure Digital, the US company company recently bought by networking giant Cisco, is said to be the smallest HD camera available and simple enough for anyone to use.

The company, not to be confused with the UK company of the same name, claims that up to HD-quality (that 720p) video can be stored on its built-in 4GB memory.

And Sanyo has shipped its new range of dual-mode Xacti cameras, including the VPC-FH1 and VPC-HD2000, which can shoot 1080p full-HD at 60 frames per second.

They both cost £549 and differ in styling: the FH1 is in a standard compact format, and the HD2000 has a pistol grip. Sanyo says both can take high-quality still images too.

Also shipping now is another pair of dual-modes: the compact VPC-TH1 and pistol-grip VPC-CG10; both cost £299 and but shoot only 720p resolution.

Sanyo also launched two waterproof 720p camcorders: the £379 VPC-WH1 which can operate at a depth of three metres, and the and the VPC-CA9 which is limited to 1.5 metres.
