Microsoft lets you add upper case letters in the middle of words

Microsoft Word can add unusually capitalised words to its spelling dictionary?
I’m thinking of words such as iPhone, eDesk and VoIP (Voice over IP).
Sally Byrne
A It certainly can and if you are using Word 2003 or later you’ll see that VoIP is already in the dictionary variations such as VoiP are flagged as errors. Each user of Word on a particular PC can have their own custom dictionary and if you add a word to this from the spelling checker options, it will respect the case.
If you add, say, iPhone to the dictionary, then iphone and Iphone will be flagged as errors. The custom dictionary is a plain text file and should you accidentally add a wrongly spelled word to it, you can edit the list from Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar, Custom Dictionaries, Modify (Word 2003 and earlier) or Word Options, Proofing, Custom Dictionaries, Edit Word List in 2007
