....without paying for a professional package
Q I want to add selectable subtitles to my home DVDs. Currently I am using Ulead Videostudio 9 to capture the video before burning to DVD.
I want to add simple subtitles to my DVDs without having to pay for a professional DVD authoring package. I have looked on the Internet and it is full of dodgy programs that will rip a DVD so you can extract the subtitles or add extra subtitles you can download from the Internet.
All I want to do is add subtitles to my home video. Can you help?

A An advantage of using DVD authoring software is that you can have up to 32 selectable tracks, for example to provide alternative language subtitles. You don’t have to spend a lot on this software. Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4 Standard Edition only costs £29.99.
Adding subtitles in Videostudio 9 is simple. Double-click in the Title track and enter and format your subtitle text in the Preview window.
Check the ‘Multiple titles’ radio button in the Edit panel and position it by clicking the bottom alignment button in the options panel, or just dragging the text.

Have you tried the new DivX?
If you want menu options like DVD chapters then I recommend DivX. Although, to use is free the cost is quite affordable and fully supported. Check out DivX Author if you are interested. Good luck.
