Openoffice 3 upgrade problem

Solve an issue with Openoffice 3

Q Among our little local group of Openoffice users who have moved to version 3, a couple have problems with an ‘Error loading Basic of document file’ message. Clearing the warning (after a few attempts) results in a normal opening and all is fine.

Two similar problems in such a small sample seems a lot. Is this a known bug and how do we get rid of it? We’re running Windows XP.

A It seems that there is a problem with the upgrade to Openoffice 3, in that files may be missing.

What you need to do is close down all Openoffice applications, as well as the quickstart icon (if present) in the Windows System Tray. Next, make sure you have ‘Show hidden files and folders’ selected in Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View. Then navigate to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\basic\Standard.

If there’s a file named script.xlb there, rename or move it.

If you’ve upgraded, there should also be a folder under Application Data named OpenOffice.org2. Dig down from here to user\basic\Standard and copy the script.xlb into
Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\basic\Standard.

Alternatively, you can copy the file from a known good installation of Openoffice 2 or 3.
