Panda Truprevent

Smarter software to protect your PC

Most antivirus programs work by using regularly updated signature files to recognise and neutralise any threats to your PC. The only flaw with this approach is that your PC could be attacked by a new virus before you've had time to download and install the latest updates.

This potential problem is the hook on which Panda Software is hanging its new Truprevent Personal Software. Rather than wait for updated signature files to appear for known viruses, Truprevent uses a technique described as 'behavioural analysis' to monitor all activity on your PC and to block any suspicious behaviour.

In this way it's able to combat new and unknown viruses whether or not you've updated your antivirus software.

Panda is positioning Truprevent as a complementary program to antivirus software. In tests it happily ran alongside Norton and McAfee products and detected potentially dangerous activity, such as games and other programs that attempt to automatically download updates from the Internet.

The software also allows you to connect to Panda's 'Virusometer' website, which contains news reports on the latest viruses and a number of tests that you can use to check the protection on your PC.

Although Truprevent works well, most users are likely to baulk at the idea of buying two separate antivirus packages. You might be better off waiting for Panda's other antivirus products, due this winter, which will have Truprevent built into them.
