Simple clear advice in plain English

Elan Vital Greenerger SSM

A silent power supply

The SSM part of the Elan Vital Greenerger power supply stands for Super Silent Mode and, although the supply comes with a 120mm cooling fan, this is only used when the supply is outputting near its 500w maximum. At all other times, the fan remains inactive.

The SSM is controlled by a dial on the back of the supply and can be adjusted from passive SSM mode through to having the fan permanently on. If the latter is selected, a temperature sensor increases or decreases the fan speed as appropriate.

Able to act as a fanless power supply, but with the safety net of a backup fan should things start getting hot.
