Simple clear advice in plain English

Vonage UTSarcom Wifi Phone

Wireless VoIP calls through a very dated handset

We managed to set the Wifi Phone up in around five minutes without going anywhere near a PC. During our tests, call clarity was on a par with most mobiles.

We did come across one problem though. When we strayed out of the range of our wireless network while on an active call, the Wifi Phone understandably lost the connection.

However, the call continued to stay active and only when we hung up on the other line did the call finally terminate.

Even when the Wifi Phone reconnected to our wireless network, there was no way to hang up the previous call.

According to Vonage, this problem will be ironed out by the time the phone is released.

Although the phone is in dire need of an updated design, we have no doubt that wireless VoIP phones such as this will become increasingly popular.

As expected, this phone is tied to Vonage’s VoIP service, so you’ll need to sign up for a Vonage account if you don’t already have one. If you move to a rival service, you will no longer be able to use this phone.

The Wifi Phone should be available by the end of February.
