Evesham Axis 64 X800XT

The Evesham Axis 64A 37A X800XT is the second PC this month to feature the brand new AMD Athlon 64 3700+ processor. Evesham has gone one step further than the Mesh (see page 48) and used the Radeon X800 XT, which is the fastest graphics card currently available. Scoring 11,329 in 3Dmark03, it's capable of handling any game, using high resolutions and detail settings. Thankfully, there's also a 20in Viewsonic TFT included.

It's no slouch in productivity stakes either. Backed up by 1GB of PC3200 DDR-Ram on an Nvidia Nforce 350 motherboard, it scored an impressive 203 in Sysmark 2004.

As you'd expect, you get a lot of high-quality components. The 200GB Serial ATA (Sata) hard disk provides more than enough storage and there's a dual-format Sony DW-U18A DVD writer too.

It also provides lots of room inside and leaves three 3.5in drive bays and two 5.25in bays free.

There's the usual range of ports including two front-mounted USB2s located under a doorway on the front of the case. The only thing we can find missing in this configuration is a multiformat card reader and dual-channel memory.

At £2113.83 it's expensive, but that's what you get for brand-new components.

Provided you want to shell that much out, it's a well-balanced system that will laugh at even the most arduous of tasks.
