Simple clear advice in plain English

Need For Speed – Most Wanted

Race cars and win money but you have to avoid the law too

If you like cars, you’ll love the latest episode of Need For Speed – Most Wanted. As the name suggests, your task is to take to the streets, gain a reputation, and become the most wanted driver.

Faster cars become available as you win more races, along with the ability to tune them. If you like, you can also get your paintbrush out and personalise your car.

Don’t worry too much about scraping your hotrod as you tear around the streets – very little damage shows up, even if you have a head-on collision.

Despite having plenty of admirers, you’ll also be in regular contact with the law. In fact, it’s these police run-ins that make the game so enthralling.

At times, you’ll have a complete fleet of cop cars, along with the police helicopter, to shake off. If you’re clever, you’ll be able to pre-empt their actions by listening in to the radio conversations.

For those who don’t want to get bogged down in a storyline, quick race and individual challenge modes are available. There’s also a very basic online race option.

If you’ve got a decent graphics card and processor, you’ll be able to experience some truly impressive 3D graphics – the attention to detail is stunning. Those with slightly more lethargic PCs can scale things down and still get reasonable frame rates.

The game is not without its faults. The racing when you first start out is far too easy, but before you know it things step up a gear – four or five gears, in fact. Suddenly the opposition becomes ridiculously good, leaving you fighting to retain your reputation.

Thanks to the decent storyline, good use of actors, stunning graphics and an endless supply of police cars, Need For Speed – Most Wanted holds your interest far longer than most driving games.
