Evesham Voyager X5 PM18

Good performance makes this a great buy.

With Intel's Dothan processor now officially available, notebooks using it are starting to rush to market, with Evesham's Voyager X5 PM18 the latest to launch.

Built using an Pentium 4 M 755 which runs at 1.8GHz, 512MB of DDR Ram and a 60GB hard disk it's no slouch from a specification point of view.

With such a powerhouse of components, we were expecting great things in our benchmark tests and we weren't disappointed, as it clocked up an overall rating of 153 in Sysmark.

Notebook systems aren't renowned for their graphics performance, but the Evesham's Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card helped it achieve an impressive 3Dmark score of 10,384 and Unreal Tournament rating of 80.8fps. Battery life was fair at two hours, one minute.

The notebook also features a 15in widescreen display, which means there is more room on the base section to house the keyboard, which is solid with well-spaced keys. The touchpad is a little small given the space available, but is responsive with left and right buttons sitting underneath. A pair of stereo speakers give good quality audio output.

Despite the inclusion of a number of high-performance components, Evesham has kept the size of the unit down. It's not the lightest at 2.95kg, but is still portable enough to take advantage of the wireless and battery saving features that earn this notebook its Centrino badge.
