Review: Lindy notebook travel backpack

A versatile backpack to transport your notebook safely

There are two big problems with most laptop bags. The first is they have a single shoulder strap, which is likely to do your back in with prolonged use.

The second issue is they obviously contain a valuable machine, making you a tempting target for any passing mugger.

The Lindy notebook trolley avoids both these snags. It does not look like a computer bag and it has twin rucksack-style straps that allow you to balance the weight across both shoulders.

Also, as its name suggests, it has wheels and a curved pull-out handle you can use to trundle it along.

There are some nice touches. The wheels have drop-down covers that protect your clothes from the dirt of the road when you pick the bag up; extra-clips keep trailing strap-ends off the ground; and, so long as the contents are reasonably distributed, the bag stands upright if you let go of it.

Inside the bag is a padded compartment big enough for any laptop with a screen of 15.4in or less.

In fact it is a bag within a bag, held in place by a strip of Velcro, so that it can be lifted out with your laptop inside it.

The can be useful for, say, packing your laptop into a larger suitcase.

The bag could do with a couple of side pockets and, as with every wheeled rucksack we have seen, you have to remember to tuck the straps away to stop them dragging on the ground in trolley mode – an irritation that could surely be avoided with the aid of some cunning spring-loading.
