Mesh Matrix XP2400+DVX

A low-cost PC that's ideal for video editing.

We are frequently amazed at how much PC hardware you can get for your money but, even so, Mesh has pulled out all the stops with the Matrix XP2400+DVX by pricing it at just £699 ex VAT.

This is a fully featured PC that uses an Athlon XP2400+ processor running at a true 2GHz, and performance is suitably fast, coming in at 208 in Sysmark 2002.

What the Mesh does have in abundance is features. The most obvious thing to focus on is the Sapphire All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro graphics card.

In essence, this is a decent DirectX 8.1 graphics card with a host of TV and video inputs and outputs.

The monitor is our Best Buy NEC-Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 750SB 17in unit, so clearly we approved of its inclusion.

Backing up the Sapphire we have the Asus A7N8X motherboard with Nforce2 chipset. It has full six-channel surround sound although the 4.1 Creative Inspire 4400 speakers clearly detract from the full movie experience.

In addition you get the ubiquitous two IDE connectors, plus two Serial ATA connectors, two USB2 ports on the backplate and another two USB2 ports on a back bracket.

A second back bracket has one regular Firewire port and a mini Firewire port, while a third provides a 15pin Midi/gameport.

One unusual feature of this Nforce2 motherboard is the pair of 10/100 Lan connectors, which could be very useful for a home network. All in all, an impressive PC for the price.
