Run PC games without inserting the original disc
Gamedrive lets you run PC games without having to insert the original disc. It works by imaging (copying) a CD and mapping the contents to a virtual drive on your PC.
This can then be used as if it were the original disc. Multiple discs can be imaged, so you won't need to swap CDs mid-game.
The software isn't compatible with all games, but we tested a large selection and it worked with most titles. It also allows you to distribute and download game images over a Lan or the internet, although this feature should be used responsibly.
If you're prone to losing or damaging CDs and don't mind sacrificing some hard drive space or you just want to reduce the hassle of inserting a disc every time you play a game, then Gamedrive 9 is ideal.
Our verdict
Pros: No need for CDs when playing games Cons: Doesn't work with all titles
