Plextor PX-716A

Plextor's first dual-layer DVD burner

Dual-layer DVD burners have been around for a few months now, but this is the first model we've seen from Plextor. Like most of the drives available it's a four-speed model and is therefore able to burn 8GB of data to a dual-layer DVD+R in just 27 minutes. Dual-layer DVD-R support is planned as a firmware update.

A decent software package, including Nero 6 SE and Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD, accompanies the drive, but Plextor doesn't supply any writeable media to get you started.

However, in a move that will please those who like to colour co-ordinate their PCs, the company has included both a beige and black front bezel.

We don't have any problems with the drive's performance, but at over £100 it's expensive compared to rivals.
