Systemax Inspire 7322

A decent performer at a reasonable price.

If you're in the market for a new PC but your bank balance has taken a bashing in recent months, then the Systemax Inspire 7322 may be the solution you're looking for.

It comes with Nvidia's NV18 graphics chip - its first to support AGP 8x.

Sporting a £700 price tag, the Inspire 7322 houses an Athlon XP 1700+ processor and 256MB of DDR PC1200 memory. The 80GB IBM hard disk is also generous at this price.

In our benchmark tests the system put in a good performance. In Sysmark, it achieved an overall score of 169 and the NV18 chip managed a respectable 75.1 frames per second (fps) in Jedi Knight and 6,341 in 3Dmark.

Inside the system case, there is upgrade potential with two spare Dimm slots and three vacant PCI slots.

A digital audio bracket has been added at the back and support for 5.1-channel sound. However, this could be removed to free up another the PCI slot, if needed.

There are two front-mounted USB ports with a further three at the back of the case; one VGA; one parallel and two serial ports; one modem and one phone passthrough socket, plus 10/100 Ethernet connectivity.

The Inspire 7322 ships with a 17in CTX flat-screen CRT monitor with a 16in viewable diagonal and maximum resolution of 1,280 x 1,024.

A set of 5.1-channel Videologic 500-ZXR speakers are also included.
