DVD copying made easy

Software also takes pain out of converting video and music files for portable devices, developer Intervideo says

Written by Martin Lynch, Personal Computer World

InterVideo is promising to make transferring video and music files from the PC to portable devices a snip with the launch of the latest version of its budget DVD authoring software, DVD Copy 5 Platinum.

The newest version of the software allows users to convert video and music files for replay on iPods, Sony PSPs, DivX media players, Memory Sticks and 3G mobile phones in three easy steps.

The software is claimed as the fastest disc back-up software on the market and can be used to copy movies, file and backup data, or merge multiple video files and burn them onto a single DVD.

'DVD Copy 5 is the latest of our product offerings that reach out to the broadest range of devices – PCs, 3G phones and other handheld devices such as Sony PSP and the iPod,' explained Steve Ro, CEO and president of InterVideo.

'Now, everyone can truly watch broadcast-quality videos anywhere anytime. The best part is, they don’t have to trade resolution and quality with convenience as they can now enjoy both.'

The CopyLater feature allows the software to perform batch conversions when the PC is idle while a new ‘TV Show To Go’ feature regularly checks your PC for new recorded TV shows and video downloads before converting them. Version 5 will also automatically calculate the best video and audio rates to save space and can be scheduled to transfer new content to portable devices at specified times.

High definition (HD) video imports are supported up to resolutions of 1920 x 1080 pixels and video can also be transferred directly from Sony HD camcorders. The new software ships in September and will cost £30.
