We've been drowned in entries this year, and it's no understatement that it was a tough job to sort through so many excellent submissions and pick a shortlist. In fact, there were so many strong entries from you that we had to trim the shortlist no less than four times before reaching a workable number we could put in front of the rest of Computeractive's editorial team.

Getting to the final 13 entries for judging was a hard work - some very accomplished shots were weeded out after much constructive debate among the judging team. The final choice was down to Computeractive's entire editorial team, with every staff member picking their five favourite photographs from the list of 13 we selected.

Congratulations are due to Michael Coleman, this year's winner. Mr Coleman wins a Canon EOS 400D digital camera kit with two lenses, a battery grip kit, charger and more, worth £969.99. Mike's picture of sea spray doesn't sound like the most obvious choice, but the crispness of the image and unusual source material stood out.

An atmospheric shot of the twin Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur won Adam Buck of Horsham one of four runners up prizes of a Canon PIXMA iP500 colour photo printer worth £129. Dennis Low's fantastic shot of a cat playing with a woollen mouse was another runner-up. The judges were impressed with the sharp foreground focus of the cat's paw and the toy. Retired college lecturer Chris Roberts, 66, sent in an accomplished shot of a swan by a Scottish loch, although that description hardly does the shot justice. Finally, Darryl Lane's close-up shot of water droplets on a plant was our last runner up.

Congratulations to all, and many thanks to everyone who entered a picture. Sorting through the entries was tough work, but excellent fun.
