Verdict:

Pros: Wireless operation; clever design

Cons: Limited range

Rating:

5

Price:

£39.99

Compatible with PCs and Macs, Microsoft's new optical travel mouse brings the benefits of cable-free computing to notebook users.

This mouse is noticeably larger than traditional models, although it's still small enough to be considered portable. Powered by a single AA battery, it is designed with both left and right-handed users in mind.

An accompanying receiver slots into a spare USB socket on the PC, and snaps into the base of the mouse when not in use. In addition, placing the receiver into the mouse automatically switches everything off to save battery power - a neat touch.

The slightly larger design works well and makes it comfortable to use for extended periods. The size of the receiver limits operational range to around 3ft, but the Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse is probably the best travel device of its kind we've seen.
