Trillian is a great Instant Messenger that's fully compatible with all the other major services: MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger and IRC.

In order to communicate with users on these IMs it's necessary to have accounts with the appropriate ones. If you already have accounts these can be entered during set up and all existing contacts will be imported into Trillian's address book.

If you don't yet have accounts, Trillian can connect you to the registration page for each messenger.

The interface is simple but effective, consisting of a main window containing all contacts and icons for each compatible messenger, and various icons to create away messages and a global connection (all IM accounts) and organise contacts.

Connection to any, or all, of the messaging services can be done automatically as soon as Trillian launches.

Full support for file sending is present, along with blocking facilities for each messaging service ensuring that you're only contacted by people you want to hear from.

Text formatting is possible, with everything from colour to style completely definable. Emoticons and Buddy icons are also supported should you be a fan.

Version 3.1 adds a new identity feature that helps you organize your home and work contact lists, HTML editing for AIM profiles, UPnP support, enhanced IRC performance, and speed enhancements.
