If you’re accessing the web through a broadband connection, the chances you were given a modem that contains a hardware firewall, built in to the router. This is usually setup for maximum protection, so you can surf the web and leave your broadband link connected, without fear of being hacked through your ‘always on’ connection.

However, this theory doesn’t apply to the spam based email we receive, on a weekly basis, nor problematic files that we download, manually and are behind are firewall. Leave your computer running, downloading your email and who knows what you’re likely to receive. Hackers are turning to email to plant worms, Trojans, dialers (that affect dialup users only) and keyloggers that enable the hacker to record the keys you type on your system – so if you visit your online back, they record the details you enter on the web form.

ewido Anti-Spyware is the latest solution from Grisoft (a company well known for their anti-virus software) that will protect your system from current and forthcoming spyware that you might receive through email or when you download a file from the Internet.
